The United States is divided into 26 eGRID subregions. Each covers a unique area of the country and has its own set of emission factors applicable to its regional grid electricity consumption.
The map is created based on the Emissions & Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID) which is a comprehensive inventory of emissions rates of electric power systems, based on available plant-specific data for all U.S. electricity generating plants that provide power to the electric grid and report data to the U.S. government. eGRID uses data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) Forms EIA-860 and EIA-923 and EPA’s Clean Air Markets Program Data.
Read more about eGRID emissions factors in our GHG Emissions Technical document which lists the emissions factors used in Portfolio Manager to determine your Total GHG Emissions, and the non-baseload emissions factors used to calculate Avoided Emissions.
